# Codex Setup Kit for Windows

Version 0.1.0 · Portable preview

Install a selected set of Agency agents into Codex, with a preview, file checks,
backups and undo. Includes an offline snapshot of 282 agent definitions.

## Open the installer

1. Extract the entire ZIP into a folder.
2. Open `Open-Setup.cmd`.
3. Search for a specialty and tick the agents you want.
4. Check the destination, then select **Preview & install**.
5. Review the number of new, replacement and unchanged files before confirming.
6. Open a new Codex chat and request an agent by name.

Example: “Use the Frontend Developer agent to review this component.”

Requires Windows, Windows PowerShell 5.1 or PowerShell 7, and permission to run
local PowerShell scripts. This package does not change execution policy. If your
organization restricts scripts, use its approved software process.

## Command line

From PowerShell, in this folder:

```powershell
# List available agents
.\Setup.ps1 -List
# Preview two agents; this changes no files
.\Setup.ps1 -Names 'Frontend Developer','Backend Architect'
# Install a selection
.\Setup.ps1 -Install -Names 'Frontend Developer','Backend Architect'
# Install the entire roster
.\Setup.ps1 -Install
# Use an alternate destination
.\Setup.ps1 -Install -Names 'Frontend Developer' -Destination 'C:\MyProject\.codex\agents'
# Undo a run using the RunId printed after install
.\Setup.ps1 -UndoRun 'PASTE-RUN-ID-HERE'
```

## Backups and undo

Existing agent files with the same name are backed up before replacement.
Unrelated files are left alone. An identical install makes no changes.
History is saved inside the chosen destination under `.agency-setup-history`.
Keep this folder to retain backups.

The window can undo its latest install during that session. For older sessions,
use the run ID from `.agency-setup-history/<run-id>/run.json` with `-UndoRun`.
Supply the same `-Destination` if you used a custom location.

Undo checks every affected file before changing anything. If a file has been
edited or removed after installation, undo stops so you can resolve it manually.
Backups and history remain after undo. Linked directories and linked target
files are refused. No administrator permissions should be needed for a normal
installation in your own Codex folder.

## What is included

- `Setup.ps1`: searchable Windows interface and command line
- `Setup.Core.psm1`: installation, verification, backups and undo
- `catalog.json`: names, descriptions and SHA-256 hashes
- `agents/`: the offline agent roster
- `AGENTS-LICENSE.txt`: upstream MIT license
- `VERIFICATION.md`: checks performed on this version

The catalog hashes detect missing or changed agent files relative to the bundled
catalog. They are not a code signature or proof of publisher authenticity.

## Source and scope

Agency agent definitions: https://github.com/msitarzewski/agency-agents

Snapshot: `4e3ac3ca6604c75113f52c695dbddcc7af928b46`.
The upstream definitions are free under the included MIT license. The upstream
project also provides its own installer and desktop app. This independent kit
adds a portable offline workflow with recorded backups and undo. It is not
endorsed by OpenAI or the upstream maintainers.

The kit does not install the Codex application, create accounts, configure
payments, grant tools or permissions, or run agents automatically. It makes no
network requests and includes no telemetry or updater. Agent instructions are
text; review them before use. Installed agents do not guarantee business results.

## Known limits

This is a preview release. File operations were tested on this Windows machine;
the graphical window still needs a manual usability check on a clean machine.
Do not run simultaneous installs into the same destination. Close Codex work
that is editing these agent definitions before installing or undoing. Undo is
preflight-checked but is not resilient to a power failure during restoration.
